Knight Life, Vol. 3: Dragons, Dancing, and Chinese New Year

Catching a blur: Sixth-graders in the form of a dragon surprise the far reaches of the Cabannis-Kaul Center at the start of the Mandarin program's celebration of Chinese New Year. The show, organized by Altamont's Mandarin teachers and performed by Mandarin students, also included a song-and-dance performance (in Mandarin, of course), live flute, and a caligraphy demonstration. Welcome to the third installment of Knight Life, a series of photographs that capture moments of daily life at Altamont.

Below are more photos of the Mandarin program's celebration of Chinese New Year.

Seniors applaud sixth-graders as they rapidly propel a massive, elaborate dragon around and through the audience. Photo and those below by Dan Carsen.

Singing in Mandarin. Dancing in something. (Students are actually physically imitating Mandarin characters.) Altamont students perform a Chinese pop tune.
